The underlying plan for all of our clients is to build a strong foundation and to teach skills for life.
Stage 1: 90-minute intake will consist of the following:
- Review the child’s academic history
- Go through the child’s book bag
- Go through the child’s study space
- Learn about the child’s homework routine
- Learn about the child’s organizational skills
- Discuss tools for staying organized
Stage 2: Follow up sessions on a weekly, monthly, or as needed basis. Consistency leads to internalization of these skills.
- Review assignments that are due and help the student fill out their weekly/monthly calendar
- Discuss tools to help the student stay focused
- Go through the student’s book bag and help them file any papers (every paper needs a home!)
- Discuss test taking strategies and study skills
Our experience has shown that the most effective outcomes occur when a student works on a weekly basis to reinforce the skills discussed in the initial intake.
Of course the appropriate action plan for each student is determined on a case-by- case basis at the time of the initial intake.
